11 Batch Whisky Cocktail Recipes for Party Season

There’s a particular ease that comes from preparing drinks before guests arrive. Glassware is ready, ice is waiting, and cocktails simply need pouring or garnishing before the first sip. Rather than repeatedly stepping away to measure ingredients, batching lets you stay part of the moment – whether that’s dinner with friends or a relaxed evening gathering.

Whisky cocktails are especially well suited to batching. Many classic recipes rely on a small number of ingredients and scale up naturally while keeping their flavour balance. From citrus-forward classics to warming winter drinks, these cocktail recipes show how batching can make hosting feel effortless.

Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is a classic stirred cocktail built around whisky, bitters and sweetness. While it’s usually prepared one glass at a time, the base mixture can be combined ahead of a gathering, or made in multiple quantities for a group. Simply batch whisky, sugar syrup and bitters in a bottle and refrigerate until needed.

When guests arrive, pour the mixture over fresh ice and finish with an orange peel garnish. Using a smooth single malt such as The Glenlivet 12 Year Old keeps the drink balanced and bright while allowing the whisky’s fruit and honey notes to shine through.

Scotch Whisky Mule

A Scotch Whisky Mule works particularly well suited to relaxed hosting during those warm, barmy afternoons. The whisky, lime juice and sugar syrup can be batched in advance and stored in the fridge before pouring the mixture over ice and topping with ginger beer. Or, as this is a quick-to-make recipe, simply multiply the recipe by the number of guests and stir into a jug ready for serving.

Scotch and Soda

Few cocktails are easier to scale than a Scotch and Soda. Simply add one part scotch whisky to one part soda for as many glasses as you need. Fill in a pitcher with fresh lemon slices and ice, and let guests help themselves.

For a less mineral tasting serve, trip whisky and seltzer. Or swap to sparkling water (either plain or lightly flavoured) for a crisp drink. Tonic water is also delicious with whisky, a slightly richer take on the classic G&T.

Whisky Sour

The Whisky Sour batches well when prepared without egg white. Combine whisky, fresh lemon juice and sugar syrup ahead of time and keep chilled until serving.

When guests arrive, shake 1-3 portions with ice before pouring into glasses. Variations such as the Maple Whisky Sour or Blackberry Whisky Sour follow the same batching method, while bringing fun, seasonal flavours into the mix.

Boulevardier

A Boulevardier is particularly well suited to batching because every ingredient is spirit-based. Whisky, Campari and sweet vermouth can be combined in advance and kept chilled in a sealed bottle on the day of your event. It’s our take on the Negroni, made with The Glenlivet 15 Year Old for extra rich notes of toffee, cinnamon and almond.

When serving, simply stir each portion with ice and garnish with orange peel. Preparing the mixture ahead of time allows the flavours to settle together, making this a practical option for an evening gathering alongside a charcuterie board.

Hot Toddy

Hot cocktails are some of the easiest recipes to make in larger quantities. Kept warm on the stove, the flavours stay vibrant and guests can top up their glasses throughout the evening with garnishes already thrown in.

A Hot Toddy is the perfect winter warmer. Combine whisky, honey, lemon and hot water in a pot or heatproof jug. You can also put your own spin on this recipe, using apple cider in place of hot water, adding ginger, or replacing lemon for orange.

Elderflower Collins

For spring and summer gatherings, the Elderflower Collins is easy to prepare ahead. Batch the whisky, lemon juice and elderflower cordial and refrigerate. When serving, pour over ice, top with soda and garnish with a cucumber ribbon.

The refreshing, floral character of elderflower perfectly complements the bold taste of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, creating a drink that’s made for sunny afternoons with friends.

Whisky Smash

Smash cocktails are ideal for batching ahead of time – and doing so can actually enhance the citrusy flavours. The base recipe for a Smash is whisky, fresh lemon or lime, and mint, muddled together and shaken with ice before straining into a glass. But you can experiment with a bunch of other fresh flavours.

Our Coco Lime Smash brings the beach to your glass thanks to a pour of coconut water. Using The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve adds enhanced tropical notes that pair naturally with the citrus and fresh herbs.

Grapefruit Paloma

A whisky twist on the classic Mexican Paloma brings bright citrus character to a refreshing serve. The base of a Grapefruit Paloma – 50ml whisky, 45ml grapefruit juice, 15ml sugar syrup and 10ml lime per person – can be prepared ahead and stored chilled, ready to pour as soon as the sun comes out.

Pour the mixture over ice and top with sparkling soda to serve. It’s a crisp, citrus-led cocktail that works particularly well for summer lunches or relaxed evenings outdoors.

Maraschino Cherry Manhattan

The Maraschino Cherry Manhattan is a sweet, straightforward drink that puts a fruity twist on a classic whisky cocktail. Made with scotch, dry vermouth and cherry liqueur, it can be combined ahead of time and stored chilled in a bottle.

When serving, stir each portion briefly with ice and garnish with a maraschino cherry. It’s a refined cocktail that fits comfortably into dinner parties or slower evenings where drinks are served after the meal.

Whisky Hot Chocolate

For colder months when you need guests to stay warm, nothing beats a Whisky Hot Chocolate. Start by making your favourite hot cocoa in a larger batch, stirring the milk gently in a pan. You’ll then whisky in cocoa powder, soft brown sugar and chocolate to create a creamy, thick serve.

Once you’re ready to pour, add the whisky to each mug before garnishing however you like – squirty cream, chopped chocolate and a dash of cinnamon are our favourite toppings.

Bringing batching into your hosting

Batching cocktails isn’t about shortcuts – it’s about giving yourself space to enjoy the occasion. Preparing drinks ahead of time means guests can be welcomed with something thoughtful in the glass without interrupting the flow of the evening.
